The Greatest Miracle of All Is a Changed Life

Sometimes, I am asked by my son if I really believe in miracles. Why is it that sometimes we pray for healing and it happens, while other prayers seem to vanish into the wind? If the universe is alive and receptive, why does cancer invade our homes and take our beloved ones? Why?

To my beloved son,

Always remember that we live in a world of miracles and mystery. If you and I could fully understand the wisdom behind this universe with our limited minds, then everything I wrote to you in my book, Threads for Life, would not be worth reading!

The world is designed to challenge you, not to make you happy. With every challenge, you feel unhappy simply because of your expectations of how the world should be.

A beautiful story I once heard fascinated me. A spiritual man announced that all his prayers had been answered. He said:

  • I asked for strength, and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.

  • I asked for wisdom, and He gave me problems to solve.

  • I asked for courage, and God gave me dangers to overcome.

  • I asked for love, and God gave me troubled people to help.

My personal opinion, after so many years of working in the educational field, is summarized by the following sentence: “The greatest miracle of all is a changed life.”

It is overwhelmingly beautiful when you feel you’ve had an impact on someone’s life and see them blossom. There comes a point in time when their eyes shine with hope. You can feel it; you can see it. It is a signal that change has happened. A miracle has occurred, and you have been the instrument.

I hope that one day, when you are old enough, you will start reading fairy tales again and believe in miracles.
